“Poland for Export presents nearly 300 photographs shown in their original context — on the pages of the magazine — alongside previously unpublished photographic material. Images beyond the frame, as well as stories surrounding the photo essays, shed new light on the working methods of photographers and editors, as well as on the magazine’s editorial strategies. The exhibition features spreads from original issues of the magazine together with prints, negatives, and contact sheets drawn from private archives and the collections of numerous institutions. This diverse selection reveals the complex context in which photography functioned, without which it is impossible to fully understand not only the history of photography in Poland, but also the role of contemporary press photography.
